Are Badger fans now the meanest fans in the Big Ten?

Based on ESPN the Mag's rankings (in which Wisconsin is ranked as having the harshest fans) and this poorly written piece in the WSJ (http://www.madison.com/wsj/home/opinion/301071), it appears that Badger fan has earned him/herself a reputation. I have only been to two games since leaving Madison 13 years ago. I don't seem to recall it being all that bad. What has happened that caused us to become so crass, cruel, etc? Or have we really?

Talk amongst yourselves.

Yeah, I went to the Iowa and Indiana games last year and the student behavior was, let's say
"a little rougher" on opposing fans than during my days at UW circa 1997.
Especially walking to the stadium along Regent with a friend from Iowa with an Iowa shirt. Plenty of people being dicks past the point of good natured ribbing. The students seem a lot more cocky. Of course going 25-1 the last 4 years at home will do that to you.

when me and my buddy (uw & west high alums), sold shirts outside of camp randall 2 yearsback, we obliterated visiting fans. it was brutal, but funny. and we gave out flowers.
madisons just more loose. yes people may be shithoused, but they also may be on mescaline. so keep your head on a swivle, or go back to evanston.

I'm not particularly interested in us being known as the new Ohio State fans: pompous, blowhard jackasses.

head on a swivel! YES! hopefully the NFL commish stays the hell away from college ball in this regard. if i can't yell about the promiscuity of ann arbor, and the fact that purdue is an all guy school, and blast some zebras with a little 'BS' chant...i'll be forced to internalize all of these outbursts. and that's not good either.

"Head on a swivel"! Effing awesome. Well played, Craig.

If fan behavior is worse, which I can neither validate nor disprove, I don't know why. Except maybe that today's youngsters are a bunch of little biatches. (Sal, realize that the kids you and I taught are now college age and it starts to make more sense.)
